Reegan McKenzie - Singer, stage director, teacher, dramatic coach and recording artist - began her vocal and directing career in college, staging numerous University productions while simultaneously building an enviable singing career. She is currently the primary vocal instructor for McKenzie-Delavan Music Studio and Productions in Rochelle Park, New Jersey, where she runs a vocal, piano and acting studio, that produces regular productions and concerts.Many of McKenzie’s students have graced professional stages from Broadway to Opera to the concert hall.
Reegan also enjoys the challenge and fulfillment of being a part of growing the Y-Arts community theater having stage-directed from the inception in 2008: Scrooge, the Musical, Beauty and the Beast, King and I, Wizard of Oz, as well as modern musical theater: Suessical the Musical, Willy Wonka, Shrek the Musical and most recently Mary Poppins, Footloose The Musical, and Menken’s A Christmas Carol. For the last four summers she is the stage director for Onstage at the Y where she has directed Little Shop of Horrors, Grease, Legally Blonde and most recently The Addams Family.
In the fall of 2010, she was instrumental in forming the Y’s own Opera company OPERA 691, where she directed and performed in Gianni Schicchi. Since then the company has presented Barber of Seville, a double bill of Suor Angelica and I Pagliacci, Hansel and Gretel and OPERA FRIGHT NIGHT featuring the opera The Medium, an original operatic pistache “FINDING CINDERELLA”, an innovative program using a pieces from all the music ever written on Cinderella, from Rossini to Wolf-Ferreri, The Magic Flute, and A Celebration of Leonard Bernstein on his 100th Birthday. When not staging productions McKenzie teaches voice lessons and for Studio 691.
Summer 2004, Ms.McKenzie made her directorial musical theater debut in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, Home of the International Mostly Mozart Festival. Bartlesville Children’s Musical Theater’s production: Peter Pan, which featured over 80 children.She has returned in to direct Beauty and the Beast, High School Musical, The Music Man, and the area premier of The Little Princess.
Ms.McKenzie is a regular returning director with Trenton’s Boheme Opera La Traviata.Her directing debut of Lucia di Lammermoor, received critical acclaim. Carmen, Cavalleria/ I Pagliacci, Aida and Madama Butterfly have been called “crisp, pure theater, and innovative while keeping the integrity of the pieces performed…brilliant, provoking and mesmerizing.”
Ms.McKenzie recently returned to the stage in an all female production of 1776, where she sang the role of Edward Rutledge.
